Any Catholics out there want to stick up for this one? The Church really has its priorities out of whack...it seems they have lost all ability to do cost-benefit analysis, and are perennially willing to stand by as large tragedies happen in order to avoid smaller ones.

I'm not sure that the Church has entirely lost the ability to do a cost-benefit analysis, because compromising on Church principles might be too high a price to pay.

I don't like the way they are threatening to balance their moral budget, but not being a Catholic I'm not one to judge.

I'd like to point out a small flaw in the argument: The Catholic Church is not issuing the ultimatum. The city of D.C. is the one throwing their weight around. The city is telling the Church that they can't keep helping the poor unless they conform to the City's rules.

Let's put the blame where the blame is due.
